That said, you will find some job search tips below that we hope will benefit you.
As you start your nuclear job search process, you’ll be a step ahead of your competition if you take advantage of these ways to find the perfect list of companies to target.
1. Job Boards
This one may seem obvious, but there is more to gain from job boards than just the current openings they have listed. To get the most from them, set up a recurring search or job alert for your geographic area, or for areas in which you’d be willing to relocate.
Even if the company doesn’t have an opening that matches your experience, you still have a viable lead. You can use the job board to build a list of potential employers and start marketing yourself to them.
2. News Management
You can have all the latest nuclear energy news delivered straight to your email inbox with the help of RSS feeds and Google Alerts.
By setting up keywords like “nuclear power,” “nuclear jobs,” or any specific keywords, you’ll never miss a headline. More importantly, you can add the names of companies making the news to your list of potential employers.
Major Media Sources – Fortune and Inc. are just a few sources that have profiled nuclear companies recently. The companies profiled by these magazines tend to be leading the way in the nuclear field, so make sure to keep up with any company that seems to be on the rise.
Niche Media – News from websites that focus on a targeted demographic or geographic location may also list companies you haven’t thought to pursue. Nuclear specific news can be found all over the web and is great to make sure that you are “in the know” for the goings on in the nuclear industry.
Press Releases – Add “nuclear power press releases” to your alerts, and you’ll find dozens of new companies making the news.
3. Social Media
Why is social media, sometimes referred to as Web 2.0, such a growing trend? It’s simple… we trust word of mouth recommendations from our friends and colleagues. In short this is networking but it’s the 21st century version of networking, which occurs at high rates of speed and without regard to borders, jobs or even real life contact.
Just log onto these social networking sites and type “nuclear” into the search function and you will find the following at any given time
(Hint: You’ll find Cool Hand Nuke in each of these places.)
4. Nuclear Specific Groups and Associations
Yet another way to identify nuclear companies is through nuclear specific groups or associations. Often these organizations will include a list of members on their website and most, if not all, of the corporate members could be places you would be willing to work. And if they have individual members listed you may find someone you know or someone you could reach out to find out more about the work environment at Palisades or whatever you place of interest.
In closing this list is not meant to be comprehensive approach to your nuclear job search or any job search. But it should help you to develop a targeted plan of attack for landing your ideal nuclear job.
