1Cool Hand Nuke has decided to do a private beta and then move into a public beta, followed by a full launch. In this post I want to explain a bit of the reasoning behind our decision to move forward in this fashion.
One - Cool Hand Nuke is a virtual community, dedicated to and driven by the needs of the engaged nuclear professional, specifically dedicated to your needs.
As such we felt it best to get it in front of you as soon as possible so that we can begin to make changes based on your feedback and our common experiences.
Two - In-house beta launches can be timely and cost consuming. We felt putting that money into site design and user experience the better way to go and much more in line with our mission to be the online gathering place for the nuclear worker.
Three - There’s no data, like real data. Meaning you learn more by interaction in the real world, than you do in a closed lab. Simply put real world experience is invaluable and something that we could not create in the lab. So we decided to make the leap, open ourselves up and get the feedback that we need to improve your experience.
Now those are the big points and the upsides for have a public beta but this does not come without some tradeoffs.
In a Beta there are inevitably bugs found and a hiccup or two experienced along the way. A prime example was our move to private beta last week. Initially it went well. So well that we decided to make a couple of small changes yesterday and push them to the live site.
These changes should have been unnoticed by you, except perhaps in quicker system performance. What resulted was cascade of headaches and errors, which we have been working to correct ever since. In fact, I expect that they will have been fixed by the time this blog is published.
But in any case we feel that it is very important that you know what we’re doing and why.
We’re having our share of bumps and bruises and we will probably have a few more; but please bear with us. We believe that in the long run we will all benefit from this common experience.
Just let us know how we’re doing & where we can improve. Together we will get there!
Until then please remember to Stay Cool!
Best Wishes,
The Cool Hand Nuke Team
